Check it out - we have a fresh new look! We here at HLHS like color, and we like to keep it happy and upbeat. Rescue comes with difficult days, but we much prefer to focus on the positive. That seems to be what animals do - dogs seem only to know how to look on the bright side, so we will do the same.
...love will keep us together..."
The Last Chance program is all about love; the love the our volunteers have for the animals as well as for the shelter employees who have such a difficult and heart-wrenching job; the love that our adopters sense is waiting for them when they look at the sweet, needy faces online, and of course, always, the unconditional, never-ending love that animals have for their people.
In love there is hope.
2011 has been quite a year for HLHS - lots of successes and our share of frustration, but that's the way it goes in rescue. As always, though, the rewards outweigh the trials, and we're thankful for everybody who helps us along the way. We could not do this alone, and we're so grateful for all the aid, support, and encouragement we've received. We're already planning to make 2012 an absolutely epic year for the animals!
From everyone at HLHS to every one of you, have a blessed holiday season. :)
It's been a heck of an eventful few weeks around HLHS! Between helping spruce up the shelter at Winnfield Animal Control, taking in nearly two dozen dogs from a local puppy mill, and getting ready for the Winn Parish Fair, we hardly know if we're coming or going.
We've been busy trying to improve our services to the public, too - we've rolled out our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program and we're excited to see folks taking advantage of it. And of course there's our new website, which we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
Whew! I reckon the busy season got started early this year. That's all right, though; like the song says, you never slow down, you never grow old. :)
Up next? Christmas pictures at Scentsational Scents, November 19. See the Events page for details. Hope to see you there!
